Map of Switzerland
Switzerland is an European country, landlocked in the central part of the continent. The Swiss Alps form part of a chain of mountains that stretch across southern Europe. The country shares five river basins and some of the largest lakes in western Europe with its neighbours. It is the source of several major European rivers that flow into the North Sea (Rhine), into the Mediterranean Sea (Rhône), into the Black Sea (Inn, through the Danube) and into the Adriatic Sea (Ticino, through the Po and Rom through the Adige). The national capital is Bern. It has border with Austria, Germany, Italy and France.
The Matterhorn, a mountain of the Alps, straddling the main watershed and border between Switzerland and Italy. It overlooks the Swiss town of Zermatt, in the canton of Valais.
